Description
I’m cribbing a lot from Wikipedia here, but Arthur John Kleps (April 17, 1928 – July 17, 1999) was a psychologist turned drug legalization advocate whose Neo-American Church defended the use of cannabis and hallucinogens (including LSD and mescaline) for spiritual enlightenment and exploration.
In 1967, he moved to Millbrook, NY, joining up with Timothy Leary, and founding the Neo-American Church, to seek “protection for the right to use marijuana and hallucinogens as religious sacraments.”
Millbrook: The True Story of the Early Years of the Psychedelic Revolution is Kleps’s account of founding the organization, Â “along with a narrative of his experiences at the Hitchcock estate between 1963 and 1970 [not that Hitchcock], and describes the church’s principles and doctrine as of the date of publication. The book also includes philosophical interpretations of the psychedelic experience and synchronicity and social and political commentary on aspects of the psychedelic movement.”
This is a softcover, second edition printing of the book, in good used condition, with some wear to the cover and edges, as you can see in the photos here, some creasing to the spine, and some spotting on the back cover. Also, the previous owner wrote their name in pen on the inside, and there were some dog-eared pages at some point, and there’s some aging to the edges of the book. The interior pages are clean and perfectly readable.
