Description

Back in 1966, San Francisco tried — and failed —  to ban this six-page book of poetry about love and sex. (There’s a fascinating article about it here in the SF Gate.) Copies of this $1 (at the time) pamphlet-style book were being confiscated across the city, and author Lenore Kandel had to go to trial and read her book aloud to a 10-person jury. Absolutely bonkers.

We’re not entirely sure if this is a first edition copy. It was published in 1966, however some sources say the real original first printing didn’t have the blue coloring on the front. It’s in good used condition with some quirks: the binding is a little loose, it’s assembled with two aging metal staples in the center. There is some edge wear, as seen in the pics here. Also, the back page has a bend in it, and there are some marks on the back two pages (photos 5 + 6 in the gallery). But all in all, it’s in great condition for its age, and is such a cool piece of San Francisco Beat Generation/Hippie history.
