Description
Back in January, The New York Times shared that there was another steamy hockey fiction before the popular romance series of Heated Rivalry: in 1980, acclaimed author Don DeLillo released the book Amazons, under the psuedonym of “Cleo Birdwell, the first woman to play in the National Hockey League.”
The book was written as if a memoir, with a photo of a blonde lady on the back, purporting to be Cleo Birdwell. NYT shares that the “sex scenes in Amazons are frequent, explicit, elaborate and often very funny,” similar to the cinematic romps of the ’80s like Porky’s.
NYT reports that “first printing of 20,000 copies sold out, outpacing sales for DeLillo’s previous books.” They also say DeLillo is embarrassed by the book, and a reprint seems unlikely. When fellow novelist Jonathan Lethem brought a copy of Amazons to a signing, DeLillo was reportedly less than amused.
We’ve got a first edition copy, in excellent used condition. The cover is protected by a mylar sleeve, and there’s just a fold in the book jacket corner, as seen in the photos here.
