Description

Winner of the 1973 Edgar Award for Best Novel. The Lingala Code is a gripping historical thriller set against the turbulent backdrop of post-independence Congo in the early 1960s. Told through the eyes of Michael Vernon, a CIA operative stationed in Kinshasa, the novel blends mystery, political intrigue, and romance as Vernon investigates the murder of a friend amid rising civil unrest and Cold War tensions. As he navigates betrayal, coded messages inspired by the Lingala language, and shifting alliances, the story evokes a vivid and volatile moment in African history while delivering page-turning suspense.

This is a hardcover, first edition of the book in excellent used condition. The right-hand edge doesn’t close all the way, but I think that’s because of the Mylar sleeve on the jacket. Otherwise, it’s very clean, as seen in the photos here.
